Engineering Summer Academy at Penn (ESAP) 2018- any acceptances?
Wondering if acceptances/results have started coming out for the Engineering summer academy at Penn (ESAP). Just wanted to start a thread to keep in the loop. My son applied after the priority deadline so not sure about his chances :( Also he is a rising sophomore so I believe the chances are even thinner for the younger ones.

Lean gap reliability
Hi, I got in and am considering attending. I don't care about prestige in terms of college admissions, however I would like to start my own business (successful one) from the lean gap program. To anyone knowledgeable or has attended, how likely were people to start their own successful business whether it was generating revenue or simply recognition? I do not want to waste an entire summer learning business to just eventually fail in my endeavor.
Thanks, again, I feel starting a successful business would look better on an app than simply attending a prestigious summer program, thus I am considering lean gap.

SSP or BWSI?
I'm interested in majoring in physics or engineering in college (possibly a double major?). Recently, I was accepted to the Beaverworks Summer Institute CogWorks program, and to the SSP astrophysics program. Here are the links to the programs:
https://beaverworks.ll.mit.edu/CMS/bw/bwsi
https://summerscience.org/
There is plenty of information on SSP, but I haven't able to find much on beaverworks. Could anyone who's attend provide any information on their experience? Right now I'm leaning towards SSP because people seem to enjoy it, but I think that I'd have a great experience at either program. Any help would be appreciated, because I only have a few days to decide which one to pick.
Thanks!

HSHSP or Simons Independent
To give some context, I am from Michigan and just finished working in a lab at Michigan State University for about a year and half now.
I was accepted into the High Schools Honors Science Program (HSHSP) at Michigan State University.
I was also placed on the waitlist of the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University. Unfortunately, I was not pulled off the waitlist; however, a professor there has offered me an independent research opportunity and the research is quite fascinating and promising and in a different field than my previous lab. The program directors said that I can still partake in all of the Simons program activities and I have access to Simons housing and food options.
I am having trouble deciding between joining a program at a university that I am already familiar with (and I would probably conduct research in the field I did my previous research in because of how I structured my application) or pursuing the independent option in a new place and conducting research in a field that is more interesting to me.
Could I still mention on my college applications that I was accepted to HSHSP if I choose to do the independent option at Simons?
How seriously do colleges take program prestige? I know that both programs are great and I would have a great time at either, but I also want to make sure I make the best decision for enhancing my college applications.
Please let me know if I need to elaborate on anything. Thank you for any input you may have!

My son was just accepted yesterday for the summer of 2018. He is very excited and I was looking for input from others who may have gone before to give him a heads up as to what to expect.

NSLI-Y 2018 - 2019
It's about time for a new thread, right? Applications opened up approx. 2 days ago for 2018-2019. How are you coming along with your applications, what language do you want to study, & where?
For those who don't know, they introduced a new trip to Indonesia for learning Bahasa Indonesia, if any of you are interested. But I believe it's only available during the summer.

TASP 2018
TASP 2018 applications are out! I wanted to create this thread to hear from some other hopeful TASPers and to discuss the application process! :)
Has anyone started writing the essays yet? I've looked through them, and they seem so open ended that it seems hard to gauge what they're looking for.

FSU YSP 2018
Hello :) I've applied to FSU YSP for the summer of '18 and I was wondering if anyone has gotten any acceptances yet. Feel free to share stats, ECs, etc.
The only test I put down was my PSAT score, a 1440. I have taken four AP tests: AP Stat (5), AP US Government (5), AP European History (4), and AP Language and Composition (4). I have a 4.0 GPA unweighted.
I am heavily involved in Blessings in a Backpack. I raised $30,000 for Blessings to feed kids in my county. I am treasurer of Incite Club, which raises awareness of women's rights and fundraises for our local women's shelter. I have been playing piano for four years. I come from a very small suburban town, so I do not have prior research experience. However, I did express my profound love for Computer Science in my essay.
Both of my teacher recommendations were probably very good, as I am very close with both of them. One was from my AP Calc AB teacher and the other was from my IB Chem teacher.
I think my essay was pretty good, I spent a lot of time perfecting it.
If anyone else would like to share their info please feel free! I hope if I get in that I get to meet you in person!

LBW Wharton 2018
hey guys! I didn't find a thread discussing LBW apps for this year, so I decided to start one.
who's applying? how's your application (essays!!) coming along?
as for me, I've read the previous discussions pretty extensively, mostly out of procrastination, and the camp seems to be an incredible experience (past attendees, I'd love your input). I don't have a successful business (or a business at all), and I don't have much of a chance of getting in, but I'm really interested, so I figured I'd give it a shot anyways.

TASS 2018
TASS applications are supposed to open up in October and i really want to apply! I know it's kind of early but the application is supposed pretty long so I'd love any advice from TASS alumni. And does anyone know the acceptance rate is or how many people are expected to apply? And if this thread keeps going until october... what do you guys think of the application? It sounds like an amazing program and I really want to go but I'm scared of the application essays
