UC Berkeley Pre-College Summer Program
So I applied for UC Berkeley pre-college summer residential program. After I got admitted, I contracted the flu and couldn't focus on the program. Then, my parents realized that the tuition is too high and wanted me to cancel, but I realized that I missed the deadline for cancellation. I am still responsible for the full fee, which is super expensive. What should I do?

Summer programs in field ecology/env studies/ag/botany?
D20 is interested in a summer pre-college program focused on field ecology, environmental studies, agriculture, or botany (wide range of interests, for sure). So far we've found:
* College of the Atlantic Islands Through Time program
* Summer in Sewanee Pre-College Field Studies program
* Smith College Field studies in sustainability program
* Mount Holyoke Restoration Ecology Summer Program - have to be local
Any reviews of these programs or other recommendations? Probably looking for a 1-3 week experience (vs. longer) and of course affordability would be great!

NYLF Summer Program
Is the NYLF engineering summer program worth the money? I’m also considering the Summer@Brown summer program. They both are really different. I’m pretty sure at the NYLF one you have a schedule that everyone does and you’re busy all day doing all types of different engineering stuff. At the Brown one you take one course and get the rest of the day to go to college admissions seminars, do the homework from the class and go in the college town.

COSMOS UCI 2019
Hi guys! I'm currently a sophomore and just got admitted into COSMOS UCI for cluster 1 yesterday. I'm debating whether or not attending the camp is worthwhile enough to justify the tuition so feel free to provide some of your opinions on this matter. Also, this forum in general can be used as a discussion platform between COSMOS applicants, not just COSMOS UCI applicants.

Iowa Young Writers' Studio 2019
Hey guys! I noticed that although applications are opening January 28, there doesn't seem to be a thread for this year yet. My twin and I were both accepted in the past, and I wanted to make sure everyone has a space to discuss the application and ask questions for 2019. We were both accepted to our dream schools for college (Columbia University for me, Haverford College for her), and believe that IYWS played a role in that, in addition to it simply being an absolutely incredible opportunity for high school students and writers in general.
Also, I was considering filming a video on the components of the IYWS application (portfolio, personal statement, etc.), and how I got accepted, ft. my twin, and discussing what it's like to actually go there. Would something like that be helpful to you guys?

Summer Writing Program - UVA or Duke
I'm looking for a summer writing program for my rising 9th grader. Has anyone had experience with either the UVA or Duke Young Writer's program? How was your experience? Did you improve your writing? Has anyone had experience at both? Can you provide a comparison?

Mites or ssp
Hey guys, I was accepted to SSP Colorado today and I’m really excited! However the tuition is pretty steep and I’m not sure how much aid I can get and I’m still waiting on MITES, which is free if I’m not mistaken. On the small chance that I’m also accepted to MITES, which would you suggest I attend? I like both a lot.

Is the ACLU summer advocacy program worth it?
I got accepted and got a scholarship of $1000 so I only have to pay $1500 but I want to know if it’s worth it. Any advice?

SSP vs. YSPA vs. NASA Internships
Hey guys. I recently got accepted to SSP and YSPA. Im hoping to get a NASA internship but because the decision deadlines are approaching quick, can anyone say from experience for example how you would rank each of these summer choices? I know each has their benefits, but generally how would you rank them. Keep in mind SSP has a solid foundation as a program but an 11% acceptance, YSPA is newer (like 5 years old) but has around 5-6 accceptance % and NASA internship is a paid internship probably with a low acceptance rate (depends on internship). I'm not sure what I want to study but if anyone can answer without repeating the "they all are great programs" line, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

TASP 2019
Hey guys!
I'm starting a new thread for people applying to the TASP program in 2019, seeing how applications are out and nobody has made one yet.
I'm applying for it myself, and I was hoping to create a place for other applicants to talk and discuss.

HSHSP 2019
Hey guys, I was wondering about who else applied to HSHSP so I decided to create this forum. Also, if you have attended the program before can you tell us what the experience is like/if it's worth it, how colleges consider the program/how It looks on applications, and were you able to do research in the area of interest you listed? Thanks!

Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship Program 2019 Thread
Hi guys!! I'm new to this place -- came on here this morning to look for some application tips for the adroit journal's mentorship program and couldn't find anything for this year. Is anyone else applying?? I was denied last year but I'm really hoping this year is the year its supposed to work out.
If you have no idea what the adroit mentorship is, it's basically the best summer thing I can find for writing -- it's for high school students and it's free/online. The mentors are amazing, I just checked some of the poetry ones out. (I'm applying first choice poetry, second choice fiction. But my fiction is bad lol.)
There's more here: https://theadroitjournal.org/about/mentorship/
Ugh I really want to get in. Trying to figure out when it's best to submit. Idk 😭

Cornell Summer Debate Camp
Has anyone attended this program? I just received an admittance letter. I know many schools have camps over the summer to make the most of their facilities, but I wonder if some programs are more meaningful than others.

Rhodes Mock Trial Academy
Hello! I would really love to hear from anyone who is familiar with this program! I was admitted into Rhodes EA, and after I received my acceptance letter, Rhodes sent me a letter about this program. Although it seems like a really cool opportunity, I have many questions...
1. I have never done Mock Trial, but I have been on my school’s Speech and Debate team for three years. I have no knowledge of mock trial but would love to participate in college. While the form I received says that beginners are welcome, is that really true? How many people who attend are truly beginners and how many aren’t?
2. As I previously said, I am a rising Freshman to Rhodes. The program says it’s open to high schoolers. While I am technically a high schooler, is this program meant for people like me? Will I meet future Rhodes folk there too?
If someone could answer these questions or provide any additional info I’d be eternally thankful! I want to start my college experience on the right foot!
