HSHSP 2019
Hey guys, I was wondering about who else applied to HSHSP so I decided to create this forum. Also, if you have attended the program before can you tell us what the experience is like/if it's worth it, how colleges consider the program/how It looks on applications, and were you able to do research in the area of interest you listed? Thanks!

Engineering Summer Academy at Penn - ESAP 2019
Hi!
My son applied to the ESAP program by the priority deadline. I know the results are supposed to come out sometime next week. I just thought I'll get this thread started so people can share their status and post if results start coming out.
Thanks

Welch SSP program 2019
Does anyone know Welch SSP program? is this a good fit or a stretch program for a non-research-experience but passive sophomore high school student in science. Heard it is very competitive. Is this very helpful for college admission?

Ask questions about summer programs here!
Hi CC,
I am currently a senior and have been accepted to some of the best summer programs in the nation. I encourage anyone to ask questions!
Here's my credentials (it's a chance thread :P )

Here is a list of the programs I have been accepted to over the past three summers:
COSMOS (attended)
SIP (UCSC one)
SIP (the other more well known one)
SIMR
UCSB RMP
Awesome Math
USA/Canada Math Camp
MITES
HSHSP
BU RISE
SAMS
TASP (attended)
Ross (attended)
SUMaC
Beaverworks
LaunchX
Simons Research Program
Was an alternate for RSI (sad boi)
PROMYS
EPGY (Stanford)
I hope that I can help everyone get into their summer programs! I will gladly look over any application essays. Just PM me. Keep in mind that I cannot guarantee anything, but I will try my best to help. Also, I am just a student with college apps so I may be late responding to y'all.
MODERATORS' NOTE: Anyone is free to ask or answer questions in this thread.

LEDA Scholars Application: 2018-2019
Hey everyone! I'm creating this thread for anyone interested in applying to LEDA. LEDA is a selective, all-expenses paid, seven-week summer program at Princeton that helps students from low-income backgrounds apply to and succeed at the nation's top universities. I am a scholar from Cohort 14, so feel free to ask me any of your questions!

SSP Astrophysics vs UCSC SIP Astronomy/Astrophysics vs UCSB RMP
Hi everyone,
I'm currently a junior deciding between several summer internships and research programs:
- SSP Astrophysics
- UCSC SIP Astronomy/Astrophysics
- UCSB's Research Mentorship Program
Has anyone attended either of these programs and is willing to answer a few questions?
Intended major in college: Computer Science and/or Electrical Engineering
I'm leaning towards SSP because prestige + good organization of the program (learning and problem sets + research), especially since I haven't done much independent research before. However, I see that many of the SIP students have gone on to do very well in ISEF/Siemens/Regeneron etc, while SSP appears to be team based so I'm not sure how much people submit their work or add on to it for science fairs. Also, how prestigious is RMP?
I did Stanford Precollege programming before 10th grade and COSMOS physics last year.
Thanks!

RSI 2019
Like last year, we're starting ahead of tha curve...what's your thoughts? Stats, maybe? I'll start with my stats.
Louisiana, from a conservative Catholic school
Asian Female
ACT: 35, PSAT:1440(10th), SAT IIs: Math 2 (800), GPA: 4.61, APs so far: AP Art History (anticipating a 5)
Junior year APs:
-Calc AB (will be taking BC exam, my school isn't one to encourage taking classes ahead)
-APUSH
-Physics C:Mech
-Lang
-self study Physics C: E+M
ECs:
-zero research experience sadly, although currently trying to find a mentor before the summer starts
-also trying to secure an internship at a local uni robotics lab
-beginner's experience in Java, Python, HTML, and CSS (boohoo CSS sucks)
-mechanical experience from robotics
-IT experience from Help Desk
-Mu Alpha Theta VP
-Treasurer of Girls Who Code
-Treasurer of Youth and Government
-Past Art Historian of school JCL
-will be resurrecting our long-dead Amnesty International Club junior year! im so excited for this )
-Intern (about to start working ) at my school's computer help desk
MUN x2 yrs
Youth Leg x2 yrs
FIRST Robotics x2 yrs
JCL x2 yrs
MAO x2 yrs

-6th at 2018 Junior Classical League state convention, placing overall in creative arts and academics
-15th in Gemini,at MAO nationals last year, hoping to place in top 10 indivs this year x
-150+ volunteer hours at various organizations, namely Girls on the Run and my local council on aging center
Hobbies:
-artsy! I love painting with watercolor especially
-a big fan of politics and government, so i've been a repeat offender at Youth Leg and MUN, having my bill on light pollution pass through both houses and being a lobbyist the year before
-math. math. MATH. my classes don't show it, because my school's really restrictive with classes in general (up to 2 APs soph year and I ditched one for doubling my maths to take AB next year), but i honestly enjoy reading math textbooks...it's pretty nerdy ik
-i meme Latin references on the regular
-obsession with electronic music. i'm pretty much a curator at this point. EDC is raging on this weekend and i'm freaking out over the lineup. i really want to DJ a school party or something! or learn how to DJ for the matter...but DJing is a pretty expensive hobby...
Uh yeah, this is my overly long, too detailed profile of me. I truly want want want to get into RSI! I have always wanted to do research, but I could never find a way to at my local university (I'm trying rn lol). I've always been fascinated by discovering something new and I've always wanted to be involved in that kind of effort. I looooooooooooooove astronomy and want to pursue aerospace engineering with a specialization in space technologies in my life. Sorry for being loquacious!
TELL ME ABOUT YOU! LET'S TALK ABOUT OUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS IN ANTICIPATION FOR RSI!

Brown Pre-College/ Summer@Brown Question!
Hi! I just applied to Summer@Brown, and I have a few questions! Please feel free to respond or ask other questions!
1. I have a 3.9 Unweighted with A's and one B --> Do those stats give me a good chance?
2. I am probably going to enroll in a 1-week course --> Will that be worth the money/time?
3. If I am accepted, I will probably apply to a medical/biological sciences course --> If you have taken one of these before. please tell me your opinions about them! (I am happy to hear your opinions about other courses as well!)
4. DORMS/DINING? Which dorms/dining areas (on and off campus) are the best?
5. How often did you find yourself having nothing to do --> Are there a lot of activities throughout the day?
THANK YOU ))

Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship Program 2019 Thread
Hi guys!! I'm new to this place -- came on here this morning to look for some application tips for the adroit journal's mentorship program and couldn't find anything for this year. Is anyone else applying?? I was denied last year but I'm really hoping this year is the year its supposed to work out.
If you have no idea what the adroit mentorship is, it's basically the best summer thing I can find for writing -- it's for high school students and it's free/online. The mentors are amazing, I just checked some of the poetry ones out. (I'm applying first choice poetry, second choice fiction. But my fiction is bad lol.)
There's more here: https://theadroitjournal.org/about/mentorship/
Ugh I really want to get in. Trying to figure out when it's best to submit. Idk 😭

SSP vs. YSPA vs. NASA Internships
Hey guys. I recently got accepted to SSP and YSPA. Im hoping to get a NASA internship but because the decision deadlines are approaching quick, can anyone say from experience for example how you would rank each of these summer choices? I know each has their benefits, but generally how would you rank them. Keep in mind SSP has a solid foundation as a program but an 11% acceptance, YSPA is newer (like 5 years old) but has around 5-6 accceptance % and NASA internship is a paid internship probably with a low acceptance rate (depends on internship). I'm not sure what I want to study but if anyone can answer without repeating the "they all are great programs" line, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
