CMU Academy for Math and Science 2018 Discussion Thread
Hi!!
I'm considering applying for SAMS and I think it'd help me and others as well if we can share suggestions, tips, insider information, etc. on this. 6 weeks is a long time to be away from home, for me it's three hours away.
Here's my stats: GPA: 3.96 W, SAT: 1160 (First time, will be taking in March), ACT: 24 (First time, taking again in February)
AP and college level math and science, anticipating a good science recommendation
If anyone would like to share their stats, or if they've been accepted (Not sure anyone has at this point) tell what you did... anyone who has been there before and has any reviews or insider tips, all would be appreciated!!!
Also, is this more ethnic minorities that are chosen? I'm not an ethnic minority, but I am an economic minority (1st in family to go to college, rural high school, generally lower income area)

Summer@Brown Dean's scholarship
Hi. I'm a junior in a high school, considering applying ED to Brown next year. (or REA to Stanford if I change mind...)
I just got a letter from summer@Brown that I got Dean's scholarship. I am really happy but concerned at the same time, as I have seen many forums saying attending summer programs at Brown could potentially lower your possibility to get in as an undergraduate by proving your financial affordability to such prestige program.
Therefore, I'm wondering...
should I go to this program or not?
I'd like to visit Brown, but would it falsely show my financial status?

Bank of America Student Leaders 2018
Hey guys, so I'm planning on applying for this but I heard it's nearly impossible to get into with an acceptance rate harder than Harvard. I don't know if I have enough leadership experience and service hours to get in to this but I wanted to make a thread for everyone who's applying for 2018. What have you guys heard about the competition? Do you know if there will be interviews? I'm from the San Francisco bay area, has anyone heard anything about the competitiveness of the markets around here?
Also, if anyone has tips on what they look for in the application (like is it the essays, the letter of recs, or service hours that matter the most), please do send advice!

I stumbled upon the website but does anyone know someone who went to this summer camp? How did they think it was? Is it more math-based or computer science-based? How selective is it?

BU RISE Internship 2018
Hi all,
Junior here. I applied to RSI and I'm planning on applying to the BU Rise program as well. Seems like every year or two someone gets a publication (internship) and there are about 3-5 Siemens semifinalists as well. Just curious, are there any other prestigious programs like such that have publications and/or submissions to national competitions such as Siemens and ISEF?
I'm planning on applying so just discuss any stats, concerns, etc!

UCSB RMP (Research Mentorship Program)
I’ve written about this program before. You can use the search button to find old threads. Thirteen alumni from the program are freshman at Stanford this year. This doesn’t mean that you’ll get accepted to Stanford but it does suggest that you can do some meaningful research if you work hard and are able to get a good mentor.
